PARENTS: Nutrition Facts: A "serving' is a measured amount of food or drink, such as one slice of bread or 1 cup of milk. Some foods that most people consume as a single serving actually contain multiple serving sizes( e.g. a 20-ounce soda, or a 3-ounce bag of chips). Also check calories for a serving. Nutrition recommendations use serving sizes to help people know how much of different types of foods they should eat to get the nutrients they need. The Nutrition Facts Label on packaged foods also lists a serving size.MY WORD: The serving sizes on packaged foods are not always the same as those included in nutrition recommendations.

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: Divorce issues. With more than one-half of mothers currently employed, fathers are assuming an increasingly greater share of child-care responsibilities. In some cases joint custody can result in divided loyalties and become an emotional seesaw for parents and child. When preparing children for the separation, tell them whom they will live with, where they will live, where the non-custodial parent will live, how visits have been arranged, and how often. Children need to know they will be free to love both parents, to express sadness, anger, and disappoointment but not to manipulate parents by playing one against the other. MY WORD: It is important that parents keep their emotions in control.

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: Studies show that many periodontal problems which occur later in life could be caused by the neglect of oral care during childhood and adolescence. Children do what they know how to do. As they practice, they learn more. As children , they find creative ways to use their new knowledge. A child sees the need for people to cooperate with one another in the interest of all. The reactions of other people are very important to a child's development. MY WORD: Your child needs to live in the most stable environment possible both in the home and away.
