CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS:When parents divorce children need to know they will be free to love both parents, to express sadness, anger, and disappointment but not to manipulate parents by playing one against the other or to indulge in uncontrolled anger or destructive behavior. They need to know that discipline will be enforced by both parent, that they will be expected to obey agreed-upon ground-rules (bedtimes, chores), and that limitations on behavior will be imposed.(pg11,Ph8)MY WORD: If the parents act civil towards each other children will be better adjusted and happy)

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: Pre-term babies: All children pre-term and full-term develop at their own rates. the most important thing to look for in children is steady developmental progress rather than specific age-related accomplishments. On the average, children who were born before term are more apt to remain physically smaller than their full-term peers. Nevertheless, inherited genes and proper nutrition become the most important determinants of the child's physical size. MY WORD: Love and care makes any child develop perfectly. (pg.6 ph1)

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: A child often imitates what others are doing. By the time he/she is two years old, the child can imitate people, even when they are not there; the child can even be his/her own audience. The child borrows roles from adults-acting out activities like reading, sleeping, and telephoning. At about the fourth year, the child finds more imaginative ways to use these roles in make-believe play.MY WORD:Parents are the child's most important role model in a child's life.(pg.4ph7)

PARENTS: Children develop individual styles of thinking. This is especially true in problem solving. Some children arrive at conclusions quickly, without considering all the facts; others think problems through before acting. Research shows that reflective children-those who stop and think - tend to perform better than implusive children in accomplishing tasks requiring detailed study.(pg.3 ph 6)MY WORD:Both types of thinking are important in different situations.

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: Your state arts agency or local council can provide information about art exhibitions, where they are, and what there is to see. Ask about programs designed for children and about parent and child events. If you are visiting a large museum, stay in two or three galleries, depending on the child's age and abilities. A number of short visits are better than a long one that is overwhelming. Don't tire children by overdoing it. (pg.6 pa.5)MY WORD: Art teaches children to think outside of the box. That an idea can be presented in many ways.
