CAREABOUTKIDS

Parents: Calcium is important for a healthy mouth. Even before they come in, baby teeth and adult teeth need calcium to develop fully. And after the teeth are in, calcium may also help protect them against decay. Calcium makes jawbones strong and healthy too!Bones are living tissue. Weight-bearing physical activity causes new bone tissue to form, which makes bones stronger. This kind of physical activity also makes muscles stronger. When muscles push and tug against bones during physical activity, bones and muscles become stronger. Weight-bearing activities are those that keep you active and on your feet so that your legs carry your body weight. Activities such as walking, running, dancing, climbing stairs and playing ball help make bones stronger.MY WORD:Children age one to two, should drink whole milk. After age two, low-fat milk is suggested by the experts.

CAREABOUTKIDS

Parents: We found our backpack to be the most versatile piece of baby equipment that we have for our ten-month-old daughter. My husband walks around out-of-doors with her in it when she is teething, and she falls asleep in no time. Our backpack distributes the weight evenly so even her grandparents can carry her in it. We also use it when we go shopping and for taking walks. She loves it! MY WORD: We use backpacks in the house when baby is not well and needs a little extra attention.

CARE ABOUT KIDS

Parents: If your baby is under 12 months old, you can help prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndome), suffocation, and strangulation by following these three tips:
1. Place your baby to sleep on his or her back. Babies who sleep on their backs have a much lower risk of dying from SIDS and suffocation. African American babies die from SIDS at more than twice the rate of other babies.2.Remove all soft bedding from the crib. A baby can suffocate from soft bedding in a crib. Be sure to remove all pillows, quilts, comforters, and sheepskins from your crib.3. Put your baby to sleep in a safe crib. A safe crib is the best place for your baby to sleep. Make sure your crib has: No missing or broken hardware and slats no more than 2 3-8" apart. No corner posts over 1/16" high. No cutout designs in the headboard or foot boards. A firm, tight-fitting mattress. A safety certification seal ( on new cribs). MY WORD:
warm clothing is sufficient for babies to keep warm and a warm room to sleep in.
