PARENTS: Teach your child rhymes, short poems and songs. Read books with rhymes. Play simple word games: How many words can you make up that sound like the word "bat"? Help your child separate the sounds in words, listen for beginning and ending sounds, and put separate sounds together. Practicing the alphabet by pointing out letters wherever you see them and by reading alphabet books.MY WORD: Read as often as you can to your child is the best way for your child to learn how to read.

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: When children learn to read the teacher provides opportunities for children to practice with the sounds that make up words. Children learn to put sounds together to make words and to break words into their sparate sounds. Teachers help children learn to recognize letter names and shapes. Teachers read with expression and talk with children about what they are learning to read.MY WORD: Parents can also teach their children how to read by following the teachers example.

When using bath seats never leave a baby unattended or with a sibling in a tub of water. Do not rely on a bath ring to keep your baby safe. Back carriers Do not use until baby is 4 or 5 months old. By then baby's neck is able to withstand jolts and not sustain an injury. When using changing tables do not leave baby on the table unattended. Always use the straps to prevent the baby from falling.
