CAREABOUTKIDS

Parents: Asthma is a disease which is associated with both spasm of the bronchial tubes and too much mucus. Consequently, the amount of medicine you may require to control your asthma depends upon how much bronchial spasm you have and how much mucus you are making.MY WORD: It has been reported that asthma is inherited. Be aware of both yourself and your husbands health problems. So your family will catch any health problems in the bud. (so to speak)

CAREABOUTKIDS

PARENTS: Bath Safety: Before you begin bathing your child, have all supplies within arm's reach and in front of you. DO NOT leave a baby unattended for even a second. If you need to leave the bathroom, take the baby with you. Do not rely on older children to watch the baby for you. Never leave a child unattended while filling the bathtub and always empty bath water immediately after use. Babies can drown in as little as one inch of water. Test temperature with your elbow or thermometer. Temperature should be between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Consider placing a latch on the bathroom door to keep children out of the bathroom when unsupervised. Keep the toilet lid down to prevent access to the water and consider using a toilt seat lock to stop children from opening the lid. MY WORD: I used a small tub in the kitchen sink as long as I could. A Sponge bath is sufficient and a lot safer. You have plenty of time for using the bathtub when your child is older. You have more control of your child when the child is at your level. Which is what the kitchen sink offers you.

PARENTS: Help prepare a young child for learning phonics (relationship between letters and sounds) as phonics will be an important part of reading lessons in the first and second grades. Label objects in the child's bedroom-clock,dresser,chair,curtain, window; toy etc. to help the child relate the sound of the word to the written word. Teach the child rhymes and alphabet songs. Encourage scribbling and tracing letters on paper.MY WORD:Teaching your child to read early in life and to read well is one of the greatest gifts you can give to your child.
